Costa Smeralda is the fifth-largest cruise ship in the world as of 2019 and the first ship in the Costa fleet fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). This is a step-change for the cruise industry as a whole, guaranteeing a substantially reduced environmental impact. The ship will continue to sail around the Western Mediterranean on multiple seven-night cruises during 2020 and 2021. Costa Smeralda will have a sister ship Costa Toscana in 2021.
